During the good old days of gaming, Gran Turismo was the premier racing while Need for Speed still ruled among more mainstream audiences. Forza Motorsport would get its start around the mid-2000s, but another franchise began drawing attention: Test Drive Unlimited.

Though Test Drive had been around for years prior, Unlimited was a new start for the series, offering an expansive 3D world, a wider selection of cars, and a focus on more luxury-based racing. It was followed by Test Drive Unlimited 2, which expanded on its predecessor even further, but then the franchise went silent for a long time.

Until now, that is. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown launches on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC after years of delays and serves as another fresh start. How does it compare to the previous game? Check out some of the biggest differences here.

*Live Service = stripping actual content and size, for "cosmetics" and slow-roll "addons" of basic features:*
- No houses
- Road length is 1/6th of TDU2
- No racing school
- No chases
- No offline mode

The amount criticism this game gets is crazy yes although the game is online only which sucks ass (but could come in the future), people saying graphics aren’t the best what some people don’t realise that the game isn’t triple AAA, it’s double AA meaning less budget compared to EA and less developers than any other gaming company! So please just be grateful for this game!

I´m gonna be honest (and don´t hate me for that), but overall, TDU 2 is way better than the new game. Forget the graphics of course (its different generations), but the old game sure looks appealing even now. I can play offline, in more roads (more KM´s), with more traffic, with police chasing me if I commit traffic offences, I got my houses with my cars on the garage and I also have plenty of cars to choose from. I was hyped when TDU 1 and TDU 2 released. For Solar Crown...I want to see if the game improved from the Demo, but my expectations are low to be honest. Live service game, no thanks. I prefer to play solo (and I could see that on the Demo too), most of the players don´t give a damm to join in a race/event. Lets see if an couple of years Solar Crown isn´t dead, and if it is...if we can have an offline mode. Always remeber what Ubisoft did to The Crew...

I hate this map. It is the anti archetype of freedom. As soon as you see the other map, the island from tdu2, you are psychological free, not boxed in. As if it wasn't enough, im tired of seeing tdsc in night time and bad weather, rain.

It could have been an automatic purchase for me on day one if it had an offline career/campaign. So it's a NO, and I might reconsider if they will add the offline gameplay down the line. I'd rather stay with FORZA HORIZON cruising Edinburgh. I will not rent a game for full price and grind for hundreds of hours just for nothing when they decide to kill the servers.
