Recalbox suits me, especially as it comes with certain aspects RetroPie doesn't - so much easier out of the box as such

2 other big differences :
- Recalbox is way better for controllers configuration (including bluetooth) and simplicity, i have a Neo Geo X arcade pad which isn't detected by Retropie and a cheap Shanwan PS3 controller which won't work using bluetooth on RetroPie whereas with Recalbox it works out of the box. I didn't check but Recalbox may have more controllers autoconfig files pre-installed in Retroarch
- RetroPie is the only system which allow to use attract mode yet, for those who want to make an arcade-type front end or use videos snaps it's the only option, Recalbox or Lakka only support image snaps.

I like them both. Some things work better on one and not the other but they both work great for playing games.

Recalbox is a lot easier for the novice to setup but hard to configure to run on a pitft (small screen). I want to run it on a pi zero with a 2.8 screen. The fbcp support is already there for the pitft's, but it's a pain in the butt to install and run it the way it is. Supposedly, an easier way will be included in the next update. Retropie setup for a pitft screen is easy with the adafruit script. But, if you set it up to run on a pi zero with a usb sound card, it has an error and runs hot for some reason.

Recalbox also has an easy setup to run the wiimotes. You just pair them with bluetooth and the configure it like any other controller. On retropie, you have to go through and add scripts to make it work.

Anyway, I will probably use them both.

Here we are, 5 years later and N64 STILL runs like a hot mess.

I like retropie. I just love the idea it's complicated and you can tweak it. and as you said. if I was to set up a device for my friends Id install recalbox. till they feet comfortable enough to start tweaking and won't to do more stuff.

Very nice comparison. Exactly the same thoughts I have. Recalbox for less tech savvy people and Retropie for enthusiasts. A good comparison to make in my opinion would be connecting bluetooth controllers on Recalbox vs Retropie. I personally had a few issues with connecting a PS3 controller on Recalbox and was only able to get it to work with a Bluetooth 2.0 Dongle. A 4.0 dongle just did not accept the controller.

I tried numerous times to get recalbox to run on a raspberry pi 4. not new to emulation as I do have two other raspberry that run with retro and batocera. I flash the image then put it in the pi and it does absolutely nothing. card is fine because I tested it by installing other stuff. I have downloaded the image a couple of times...this is weird, because ai would love to try recalbox.

Recalbox I have found to be way more user friendly. For me that is important. RetroPie provides more options but I hate having to to go into the setup to change what needs to be changed to get it up and running. Also I love it with RecalBox how you can simply go onto your laptop, type in the pi's ip address and you have a great UI and easily upload roms with little trouble. It even tells you the exact bios files you need to run certain emulators as well.

Great video! What do you advice, Im looking for a wireless controller that works out of the box with a RF dongle (no bluetooth) without the use of AA batteries for Recalbox?

How do these compare to RetroArch and EmulationStation systems?

great videos, but I feel you did not really talk about differences. You talked about emulator differences, but not much of the UI stuff.

Thank you for your videos they're very helpful. can you teach us how to lower the resolution for the N64. You mentioned that in this video but you never showed us how to do it. Thanks

You say there are less emulators on Recalbox, does that mean there are some systems that Recalbox can't play that Retropie can?

I notice people rave about new emulators and os's on the pi mainly because they're new, bit you use them for more than ten minutes and they're awful, with no support. I tried lakka, the Wi-Fi doesn't even work on it. straight back to retropie.
