For anyone wondering why the secrecy. This was actually one of the very first scenes of the show that was shot (shows or movies usually don't film things in the order that they appear on the script). The actors really didn't know each other all that well, and given the state in which Viserys was they didn't want people to already know how bad his illness was getting since this scene although one of the first shot was for Episode 7.

Mad how both Paddy and Shaun played the powerhouses that would carry season one. Both died in their season but leave some of the finest acting in the GOT universe.

I think the guy doesn’t get even half the credit he deserves by the viewers. For me King Viserys is the core character of the story, as much as Daemon and Rhayenira and the play Paddy does is so incredible, you can feel his loneliness, his hopeless attempt to unite the family, to keep peace at the realm, to protect his daughter and cut off anyone badmouthing her, make things right with his brother. He is genuinely a good man and for that he is not fit to be a good king. He just lets anyone he loves to go their own way, but that throne scene, that was something else, the play of it, the king himself being the actual king, despite his horrible condition he gets in and deals with what has to be done, protecting his daughter’s right to rule and finally becoming brothers again with Daemon. Huge performance and play.
