Sensitization videos to capture the views of Gambians on the Constitutional Reform Process and their inputs on the progressive clauses of the draft constitution, especially the inclusion of marginalized groups in decision making.
These videos were obtained using recorded clips and vox-pops engaging citizens to obtain their personal opinions from members of the general public, youth leaders, community leaders, women and participants of the community engagement programmes across the six regions of The Gambia.
To further sustain the advocacy for inclusiveness in the Gambia’s constitutional process and to highlight the progressive clauses in the draft constitution, specifically: Youth Representation, Section 84: (2) Every political party shall – (g) ensure that at least ten percent of candidates for election to the National Assembly are youth, while Section 204: (2) Local Government Authorities established under this Constitution shall reflect the following features – (e) a minimum of ten percent of the members of representative bodies in each Local Government area shall be youths. Participation of Women, Section 83 (Constituencies for National Assembly Elections): (b) 14 women, 2 elected from each administrative area. People with Disabilities Section 204:(2) Local Government Authorities established under this Constitution shall reflect the following features – (d) opportunities shall be provided to train persons with disabilities with a view to affording them employment in the Local Government and other sectors. Section 83 (Constituencies for National Assembly Elections): (c) 2 persons with disabilities from amongst the members of the federation representing such persons.
