A moving hymn written by a man close to death. How wonderful that our Saviour abides with us through thick and thin.

1. Abide with me! fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

2. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

3. Come not in terrors, as the King of kings;
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings:
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea;
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Praying for a very extreme sad funeral for a young 13 year old girl who took her own life. I have a friend who has gone to another city and is there with many people who are lost. I am listening and learning to fervently pray that the Holy Spirit even by the atheists there know his abiding presence is there. May the 94 year old greatly grieving Christian great grandmother know his God Hugs are there and he is holding her and he is truly abiding there! Hear my prayer this day O Lord. In Jesus's Sacred Name Amen 🙏

one of the earliest hymns I remember from my youngest childhood because it was a hymn played by the bands after the second world war & my father was a cornet player in one of the bands. So I imagine it was played during the second world war - at least by the band formed by soldiers in NSW, Australia & possibly nation wide.
