How to convert XML to PDF

It is a common use case to convert an XML to PDF to display to users. I have in other projects used Apache FOP that will allow you to convert an XML to a PDF. The structure you will need to create the pdf document from XML is pretty complex. So it is probably a good idea to use an XSL(T) to transform the normal XML into a fo formatted XML. Then you want to run the fob to PDF either in a message mapping or better to use an adapter module for it.

Fop is good when you need to product small documents, but when xml is about 100mb size, then the formatted (fo xml) is over 300mb of size and fop needs huge amount of Java virtual memory to run successfully this kind of operation.
