Surf tips: Midlength surfing technique with Alex Gray

Most surfers are stuck riding in the middle of the wave and that prevents them from fully unlocking their potential. Focusing on riding to top of the wave and riding all the way down to the bottom can be a really good intermediate step towards doing more critical turns.

Most important principle in surfing is "gain speed before you turn"

Yup! Surfed nothing but a 7'6 single fin (CJ nelson outlier) for two years because I was so addictied to it and it really teaches you how to use the whole wave face to generate momentum and speed. Especially a single fin where you're not really pumping the board. Back on short boards now and my surfing is better as a result.

All depends on how fast the wave is breaking.

Don't ride it like a mid length. Drop in, bottom turn and smack the lip, vertical. You'll be surprised what that board can actually do. 🤔🤙🇺🇦🇺🇲

He may be going to the top but there isn't any vertical at all. It's not his fault it's the board.
