French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday said a deeply unpopular new law that raises the retirement age was necessary and would enter into force by the end of the year. Saying he had "no regrets," he however added that he wanted to improve a fraught relationship with labour unions and involve them more in future reforms, on topics including retraining for those in painful jobs. Protests unreported in the UK. Our age is 67 and getting older all the time. Vive la France.

You need to cut the politicians wages not the pensioners . How many raises have they given themselves since macron has been in office.?

In Italy the min. age is 67, yet nobody has been saying anything in years. Furthermore young people can't afford to pay any of the contributions to guarantee themselves a decent pension. I don't know about the legitimacy or rightness of such violent protests but at least French people are taking their future seriously and fighting for it.. around the rest of Europe I can't hear but a deafening silence

The older you get the more tired you get. All and I do mean all countries should allow people to retire with a good pension at 60. Hard working people should have time for themselves and to help them lead creative lives for themselves. Working until you are exhausted, and the body does not lie. Most people are tired at 60. I repeat give them time to live their own lives. France should be proud to have a low retirement age.

The earliest I can retire is at the age of 68 years and 2 months. I am not kidding. Greetings from Finland...

I like how all the talk sending money and weapons to defend Ukraine's democracy is just complete hypocrisy since he had to override the legislature and ignore the will of the people of france

His wife is old, you would think she would defend retirement age.

Guys. I live in Toulouse, south of France. Watch us tomorrow. We will be millions. They will unleash their dogs on us. But we got rid of monarchy once. I will sing la Marseillaise tomorrow and I'm ready to fight.

Edit : I'm almost 40. Never seen something like this. The hate is real, I feel it inside me. This is the start of a revolution. Where every you are, unite and fight the oppression of the STATE.

If he can't do better than that he shouldn't be in office. He's not fit.

He is 100% right. Where do these people think the money will come from? He could easily chose an easy life and not go through this stress but he is willing to put his neck on the line for the long term benefit of France, to me a sign of a quality politician.

Rutte, Macron, Biden and Trudeau must resign for our world to move in the right direction.
