I believe banks should be whole reserve wealth depositories whose SOLE job should be holding and converting wealth. If you want to passively profit from your money, invest it in a dedicated lender, who should only be permitted to charge fees proportional to the size of the loan (no interest). Both should be privatized but only permitted at a local level with management in the hands of dynastic families tied to the communities and treated as semi-sacred institutions overseen by local churches AND governments for the benefit of the community.

Bank's role is not to lend money. The banks role is to convert an asset into a means of exchange condition that its paid back at a mutually agreed time.
