Stuffed animals for children, especially young ones, are one of the few things I would always buy new.
Yes washing exists but I don’t want to risk anything, besides there are germs and molds that don’t just come out in a wash.
I do love the “do I have something at home that gets this job done, or could I thrift it instead?” before buying new things.

Took my niece thrift shopping, she's 7. Bought her a plushie and she'd keep getting sick and we didn't know why. We washed it, sent it for professional cleaning but she still kept getting sick. Turns out it was a stubborn strain of mould she was allergic to. So I'd tread very lightly with the thrifted stuffies

Don't get your kids plushies from the thrift store unless you are going to clean them EXTREMELY!!!

I will say, the only thing I disagree with is the thrift store plushies, you never know what others have done with them. Garage sales are a little safer because you actually meet the people but it's still risky.

Whenever I see an impulse item I ask myself “Do I have a similar item or an item that can do the same thing?” It’s saved me from buying a lot of crap that I wouldn’t use that often

My friend bought fuzzy slippers from the thrift and they had flees

kids deserve new, clean stuffed animals. better to get 1 nice one than a bunch of used ones

I like the idea of thrifted plushies. But bedbugs freak me out.
Im buying new or taking a hand me down from someone i know and trust their home.

Everyone ignore the plushies from the thrift store suggestion, but everything else is solid advice.

idk the aldi aisle usually gets me with "that thing you've needed for awhile but haven't found one cheap enough yet". but im usually a thrifter and a cheapskate through and through and actually have a really hard time deciding to buy something even if i really need it!

Girl, I get the stuffy thing but girl they’re used. They’re dirty and no amount of disinfected stuff could fix that. It could be stuck in any crevice. Trust me.

Glassware at thrift stores has become so expensive! Especially Goodwill!

Plushies are a thriftstore no... everything else yes buy it second hand

There are a lot of things in the "Aldi Finds" aisle that are impulse purchases, but they also have lots of quality dupes for name brand products that are honestly a steal. Pyrex/Anchor Hocking-esque glass bowl sets, collapsible colanders similar to squish brand, and some of their outdoor gear is just as good as the camp kitchen equipment you'd buy at REI if you know what to look for. As with all stores and all purchases, you just have to be wise about buying quality and evaluating actual need. Sure, some people are "influenced" or "deinfluenced" to buy something or not by outside forces. But I truly think that most people buying tons of cheap junk they dont need are dealing with internal impulse control/ instant gratification/ shopping addiction issues that no content creator will have any effect on regardless.

I'm super sad that Aldi closed down in Denmark....

Most thrift stores around here don’t even take plushies! Which is a good idea.

I love going in that isle to get ideas of how to use stuff I already have and need a use for!

The propagation tubes have been an amazing buy for me. I’ve been debating buying a test tube set up for propagating but couldn’t find anything affordable. Those are perfect!!
I bought them because I’ve been looking for that type of thing for a long time - not on a whim! That’s the difference. I use jars and egg cartons too. One set of tubes won’t kill me :)

I literally love this whole account thank you

Personally i would advise against thrifted glasswear, cups, dinner wear of any kind. Alot of thrifted glasswear may contain lead paint, especially vintage stuff. Thrift stores wont test their products for lead paint.
