There isn't enough whisky in Scotland to make those NOT seem creepy

The creepiest bit is that 12 year olds are singing about boys roughly their own age saying ‘he knows everything’ - no he doesn’t, he’s also 12. Plus there’s the whole ‘he’s more important because he’s male’ bit 🥴

I grew up Mormon and was a firm believer until I started to question at 16. When I reached the age of 18 I was trying to see my way out and so I decided instead of going to elders quorum, mission prep(def wasn’t interested in serving), or some other young men group. I spoke with my dad and bishop and I was able to teach Primary with my older sister. Little did I know being around these kids while they were having these songs drilled into their heads along with the articles of faith, would only push me out quicker. Now I’m 2 years out of the church:)

I am now founding a polygamous mermaid cult and replace every moremen in that song with mermen.

I feel like we can get some folks to riff on MoreMen and make it total banger to spite the cult

GREAT SINGING! I'm sure that felt embarrassing to do into a camera, but honestly it totally made your point so much sharper.

One day on my mission, the zone leader told us to just pick one of the children's songs and sing it in the street. I chose "Follow the Prophet" and the zone leader immediately said, "Not that one, Elder! We don't want to sound like a cult." 😆

I remember singing More Men at girls camp and being so uncomfortable and confused. Partly due to the fact I knew I was a lesbian back than but also because it felt so weird to get girls as young as thirteen to sing about wanting to marry and have eternal life with their husbands.

That melody! My camp sang it as:

I know a Weenie Man
He owns a weenie stand
He sells us everything from hotdogs on down

Some day I’ll change his life
I’ll be his Weenie Wife
Hot dog I love that Weenie Man
HOTDOG!

The rest of the lyrics for "I'd love to see the temple" are as follows

For the temple is a house of god
A place of love and beauty
I'll prepare myself while I am young
This is my sacred duity.

Makes it even creepier once you know the rest of the lyrics.

If queer people made the more men song to mock straight people, people would find it offensive

I’ve always found Follow the Prophet to be the creepiest. Even as a kid in the church I was like 👀

I didn’t expect my muscle memory to trigger immediately and start singing along with you 🥴😭

“Follow the prophet
Follow the prophet
Follow the prophet
Don’t go astray
Follow the prophet
Follow the prophet
Follow the prophet
He knows the way.”

Respect for singing that on camera! If someone else had told me about the "More men" song, they wouldn't have been able to persuade me that they weren't joking!

it’s crazy because i had a mormon friend in high school who always said that the book of mormon musical on broadway was totally inaccurate. which like. yes it’s a comedy with plenty of made-up shit but i can also see how they did their homework. even just in the musical & lyrical structure of the songs
