In the entirety of human history, it can be argued that only two revolutions took place that truly altered the majority of human society. The first was the Neolithic Revolution, which involved the shift from humans being primarily hunter-gatherers to being farmers. The second is the Industrial Revolution, and that involved the shift from farms to factories.
Classical liberalism and the Industrial Revolution transformed British society. A society based on agriculture and the landed classes, interventionist government, and humanitarianism became a society based on industry and the middle classes, laissez faire government, and the pursuit of industrial efficiency.
However, as we will see, this new development created unsolvable problems which revealed the blind spots of classical liberalism.
