Why It's Never Too Late To Start Dancing

Hey STEEZY Nation,

If you are asking yourself if it's too late to start dancing, the answer is NO!

You're not too old, and it's never too late to start dancing.

Even though it's easy to feel like you're behind in dance, the only thing that matters is that you start learning, and be active about training.

And remember... We do things because we love it, and age shouldn't stop you from doing what you love.

With Love,

I’m 23, started three months ago. Never danced before, never did much sports either.
So here’s my story. Kind of a long-read, so bear with it.
Honestly, at first it was a disaster. I SUCKED. Like A LOT. I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, I didn’t remember and understood the choreo and only thought that ran through my mind was “what the heck I’m doing here I’m such a piece of shit, it’s embarrassing”. I got huge huge waves of anxiety. I constantly kept comparing myself to other dancers on the class(who were 10 years younger than me and better). But I really liked the feeling that I got after dance classes(relief and calmness) so I didn’t quit.
Recently I feel much much better, I attended 13 classes in the past two weeks(dancing marathon, yay!) and I’m starting to feel more confident about dancing. I can finally unglue my eyes from the choreographer and look at myself in the mirror(before it was absolutely impossible). I just realized that dancing makes me so so so happy, it’s one of the best things in my life and I want to continue and be better at it.
SO what I want to say is DON’T GIVE UP, you got this. Give yourself some time. And just DO IT. Sign up for those classes! I believe in you!

Friendly reminder that Kyle Hanagami started at 19, and I think Anthony Lee started in college. Never too late

I'm laughing as I read through the comments... "I'm 16. I'm 23. I'm 26." Well, I'm 46 and I ended up here... is it too late? Never too late...but is it goofy? Yeah, probably a little bit as a 46 year old... but maybe I'll try and learn anyway... we'll see.

I’m 16 and started dancing in late October of this year (2018) and i already see lots improvements! A new year resolution of mine is to practice more. And i wanna open myself up to more styles of dance. I currently do hip hop and contemp, but i would love to do ballet, jazz, and tap as well.

Turning 29 this month and I'm going to give the Steezy year plan a try.
Things like singing, dancing, and making music were always things I had interests in but never really gave a shot. Well, I'm looking to make some life changes and find hobbies (and maybe a career path 🤷🏼‍♂️) that actually make me HAPPY! So this comment is me putting myself out there and holding myself accountable. Let's see where I am a year from now. <33

how good is this! Awesome video Steezy. Yes, definitely NEVER too late... I started dancing in a studio when I was 25 and I'm 33 now... and in that time I've done a lot with learning, performing, choreographing, teaching, videos, etc... just remember to do what makes you happy, don't try to live up to others expectations or "standards" -- YOU DO YOU and it'll make you happy as f** :)

I'm 26. I was basically lost in life, no idea what I wanted to do, I've started singing lessons last year cause I've always loved singing, but somehow was quite unsatisfied with the experience.

My cousin randomly recommended to me to join a musical theather school. Well, basically, she just spitted those words out as if they meant nothing, but those words were so big to me I dreamt with them for 3 days in a row until I searched for that school and signing up for an audition. It's amazing how our minds repress feelings and wishes like this and how strong they reveal themselves with just one simple sentence of support. Then, at the dance audition, we learnt a small choreo and when the teacher put the song on and we had to dance to it, I became emotional and teary because I loved the feeling and it made me so happy xD I was also shocked when I heard 15 years old kids saying they have 10 years of dance experience, that's just crazy. But I still want to do it.

So, because Musical theatre isn't only singing, I started dancing lessons. I know it will be a crazy challenge. I've always been terrible at sports and haven't practiced any for years. Last week I had my first lesson and I had to stop after 15 minutes cause I got crazy dizzy. After lying down and feeling better after 5 minutes I returned and then even did an extra class that I wasn't supposed to xD I'll have to improve my resistence, cause I want to be able to keep the pace.

Also, I failed the audition. They had less spots because of covid-19 -.- They put the 15 yo in the children course and then still had to take one out. They told me I wasn't the one to stay cause I said I just wanted to try and see if it made me happy (which was a lie I told myself for fear of acknowledging it. The month I was figuring out my feelings for this was crazy scary and a build up of accumulative mental health issues). Well, whatever it is, I'm taking individual lessons to try again next time. I really hope I do well and keep up with the dancing, the kids are insanely good.

This was always something I tell everyone that it’s never too late to dance. However, it is harder when your older just cuz of the responsibilities you have to attend to vs while your younger there’s a lot more time allowed to work on your craft. But it’s all about time management. If you want to do it, then you’ll find a way. Damn... gotta listen to myself more often. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I'm here cause I'm 28 and I want to start dancing. I have been wanting to dance but my head just get me first, so I only dance in my imagination. Now, I am really going into dancing. No more fantasies. But then, I can't help but question myself. But I am doing this now. Thanks!
