Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro: Is this the Neo Geo II?

Taking a look at the teased SNK announcement of the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro, and wondering if this is what was meant by the Neo Geo II announcement a few weeks back.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly... At first glance I thought I was looking at an AliExpress clone stick due to the color pattern.

They know they have our money though... *Le sigh* being NGcollectors

For $80 I'd do it, my numerous neo geo minis need something to sit on top of

The Button Layout is how most Japanese Arcades have been doing it for YEARS now. It's a great layout for fighting games.

At this point Scarlet. I'm more enjoying the success that SNK is substantially proving itself to be as a major video game establishment once more. Compared to the lost decade era with them that was really just concentrating on Pachinko slot units as their main source of profit when they were SNK/Playmore.. Now that the Chinese invested in SNK and really have gain strong momentum, I'm glad that business is on the up and up for them.


So If this happens to be the Neo-Geo 2 or not, I really want SNK just to succeed at this point and never have to go through another recurrence to what happen to themselves from the original SNK in 2001.

My hope is that this is essentially the proper Neo Geo mini. That is, no screen, and proper video out. Using it as an arcade stick or optional joypads for 2plr (you know we all play alone) is smart, if not weird. If the arcade stick feels good, the video out is good, and it came with an entire romset (or an SNK romset) ((more than the mini, all uncensored)) I would pay good money for it. Anything less requires consideration.

To add on to what I mention earlier, guess what? SNK announced that they're seeking new recruitment of artist, programmers, and designers to work at their establishment. A fantastic sign that shows that SNK is once again becoming what it was traditionally known as. 8^)

If this were a new mini i would prefer this form factor. But i hope this will work on new consoles then the price would be worth it. I do agree with the color arcade scheme you suggested.

Neo geo mini 2 but with clicky joystick and improved graphics (hopefully)

Its not really a issue because you can always rearange the layout of the buttons if the stick is accessible for that.i think the most concerning of all this is from the look of it the case is all plastic with no metal base. That compromises a lot the quality of the stick itself. If not i kinda dig the shape of it.

This is a strange product. I love the button layout, it is great for fighting games since it looks like it's the taito vewlix layout, but I agree with you on this. It's a bad idea for this product.

If the idea is to line up with neo geo branding then the taito layout isn't needed. Stick with neo geo for a neo geo product so it doesn't suffer from an identity crisis. If I want to play fighting games with a taito vewlix layout there's already plenty of other options.

Anyone complaining about the button layout, just pop them out and place them back however you like.... easy-peasy. I never could afford a Neo Geo, so it’s all new to me, and quite frankly I prefer this “new” layout so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Truthfully imo, SNK is known to both deliver on a epic scale AND tanks itself into mediocrity in a chaotic fashion. Making the company SNK unpredictable. They nailed the AES, NGcd and the NGPC pretty well (except the greedy corporate people effed it up on advertising). But I believe the Hyper NG, Neo Geo X and the Neo Geo Mini, could have been better otherwise if they made the systems more durable and overall accessable. I will wait to see what SNK cooks up, before passing judgement, but as a huge SNK fan myself I'm trying my damnest to be glass half full

Well, i know I'm Shooting for the skys but my guess (and hope) is that this will have the tegra chip like the switch, and will be able to play the same switch versions of the new SNK games.

An awful lot of white, but at least the Arcade Stick Pro isn’t shaped like the letters *NEOGEO* or since it seems to be only one joystick, the letters *SNK* to fit just one player :P

The Lay out worries me. Of course SNK considered the traditional lay-out so going this direction might be a Neo Geo mini comparable/compatible system.

Eventhough something completely New and groundbreaking like the AES was would be fantastic I’m hesitent to believe this will live up to the Neo Geo 2 name.

I like it. If indeed it does have the features you suggest it may have, that makes for a very unique piece of Neo Geo hardware/software. Given this device's esoteric nature, I don't think this is the Neo Geo 2. Neo Geo 2 will be a full fledged console with "play store" type support. As stated previously here, more than likely Neo Geo Mini 2.

Whatever you do don't go to the NeoGeo forums or NeoGeo Facebook group, they are tearing this thing apart.

IMO SNK is stuck on who to serve. The long standing fans who've made it possible for them to even exist, or fickle millennials who change likes on a whim.

They are transitioning to everything being 2.5D, which I believe is another mistake. The reason we have loved SNK the last 25 years has been that gorgeous pixel art. If they abandon that to go fully 3D then to be honest they're just another company. They can never outspend Sony/Capcom/Microsoft who have the 3D market cornered.

3D and 2.5D games never age as well as 2D pixel, especially if that pixel art is HD.

IMO if you're going to market this console as the NeoGeo II then you should include a good portion of your classics in HD uprez, and then offer 2.5D remakes for download or in Clamshell collector's editions.

SNK don't forget where your bread is buttered.

I hate that they changed the button layout also. Everyone learned to play one way and then they said oh well, you will learn again. My brain doesn't like it.
