With technology constantly progressing, adolescents tend to focus on social media, watching TV, or partake in wasteful sedentary activities. Most prefer indulging in unproductive activities and internet surfing instead of being physically active. It is a problem that high school students do not prioritize physical activity in their lives. They are potentially setting themselves up for higher risk to develop serious health conditions if they remain inactive. The results that were found are even more outlandish!
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
¥ Less than 3 in 10 high school students get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day
According to 2015 United States High School Risk Behavior Survey
¥ 70.2% of students did not attend physical education classes on all 5 days of a school week
¥ 14.3% of high school students did not participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on at least one day
¥ 41.7% of high school students played video or computer games or used a computer 3 or more hours per day for something that was not school related on an average school day
¥ In 2015, 51.6% of high school students attended physical education classes in an average week compared to only 29.8% of high school students attending physical education classes daily.
Now I am going to pass it off for the benefit section of why high school students should be physically active.
¥ Daily physical activity is a very rewarding in terms of energy, self-esteem, self-worth, mental capacity, and physical gains
¥ According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people can control their weight, reduce their risks of cardiovascular diseases, reduce their risk for Type 2 diabetes, strengthen bones and muscles, control arthritis, improve their mental health and mood, and increase their chances of living longer.
The final message that we are trying to spead is that
¥ High school students should engage in healthy habits such as exercise and proper nutrition to prevent serious health problems
¥ High school students should compete seriously in their physical education class, so their bodies are challenged with physical activity throughout the week consistently.
¥ High school students should join a sport or club to enhance both their social and physical capabilities
