I'm going against the grain here FOR SURE, but my usage of some older "dream theory" evidence is because I don't believe dream theory was ever the intended answer. Scott has publicly joked about the idea of a dream theory on several occasions and hasn't taken it seriously which means all our hints regarding the connection between crying child's memories and the events in the games have to mean something else. AT LEAST THATS MY OPINION (just a theory)

This is one of those theories where narratively, it feels unsatisfying, but when you combine all the evidence, a little twinge in your guts says it's probably the truth. And that sucks lol. Respect man. Scott did say he wondered if the fans would even accept the true answer. I did once ponder if the games were about just a kid playing with dolls.

I've always wondered if all the games were centered around a singular incident, but told in a different way each time, and this is probably the answer to what I was feeling.

My favourite theory up until this point was one about an Atari 2600 being inside the box, as the same people in real life that designed it also designed the software for the Chuck e Cheese Animatronics and that somewhere along the way, an AI was made.

Addressing a point brought to my attention: with the ghosts, I’m not saying MCI didn’t happen and all the ghosts are just CC. I’m drawing a connection between how the similarities between them all is referring to how they all contain a piece of crying child (in the context of my theory at least)

3:10 I think Dream Theory was the _original_ intent, which is why the story got so weird after/with Sister Location - he had to retroactively justify things that were originally just part of a series of dreams, since they were retconned into being real. Sire Squawks has a video about this that goes more in-depth into this idea than MatPat's initial video on this, and it's a pretty compelling presentation that the "one major retcon" Scott made was making the FNaF games _not_ take place in dreams. Also, the screenshot you used could easily be a sarcastic or self-deprecating joke.
5:48 Maybe that's just how Scott draws ghosts? They didn't have individual identities at that point, so why make them look different? He hadn't intended to even name them until later. Are you suggesting that Crying Child _literally_ became 5 different ghosts? Doesn't that invalidate the whole MCI?
Something else to note is that a lot of your evidence comes from _after_ FNaF 4 came out, like the novels and Sister Location, at which point the retcon had already taken place, and thus doesn't provide good evidence about the _original_ intent. Heck, _remnant_ wasn't even a thing by the time of FNaF 4, let alone _agony._

The sister location underground map looking like the box is actually extremely compelling for some reason

Not very related but I recently figured out why the fnaf4 bite was the bite of 83 and not 87 like Scott was hinting before release, it’s bc the crying child didn’t survive after losing his frontal lobe like in the bite of 87. Scott most likely realized this discrepancy and changed the date last minute to 83

Whoa, this would really explain William's motives in The Fourth Closet! Or at least what led to him making the Funtime animatronics in the first place. He dismantled each of the original animatronics and melted down pieces of them to collect their agony, their remnant. Then he injected that agony into the Funtime animatronics, which is why destroying Ennard/Molten Freddy was so important in setting the ghosts free. Because they'd never technically be free as long as a piece of their spirits were left on Earth.

But maybe the reason William did all that in the first place wasn't just to test the power of Remnant, create a monster he could control, or become immortal (though those are still very much motives), but because he needed remnant from all four of the original animatronics so he could put Crying Child back together.

My theory is the crying child is a cyborg/zombie similar to novel Charlie and he was the stand in for Michael going around applying for Pizzeria security jobs up until the lore was rewritten

It is probably the only way I could see the original Fnaf 4 story to make sense given the context

-Puppet was most likely psychic Fred Fredbear given the eye things.

-If you don’t know already in night 6 the “I will put you back together” monologue has a different color than every other psychic friend Fredbear text. This implies they were different people at different times

-I will put you back together is a line tied to both resurrecting and happiest day

-there is a person accounted for with every other haunted animatronic that crying child can’t be any of them
