What is the government's role?

Government should have a limited function and individuals should be held responsible for their own actions.

The government can not end poverty on its own, because the solution to ending poverty is capitalism and the free market.

UNTIL the people in the market have too much control and money, stifling the poor. The free market is just another form of a governing body.

We are the government and I personally vote for people who believe in utilizing the power of government to act in the best interest of iits citizens to help create opportunities and achieve outcomes that are beyond the reach of the individual, to protect the things that we hold in common, and to insure the fairness of markets. Markets work great, but only if they are put in a straightjacket because every time we experiment with leaving the market to its own devices they game the market and when it all comes crashing down they run to the government screaming "Help" like they did in 2008 and quickly move to undermine the reforms that would be prevent the same thing from happening all over again. I hate this Milton Friedman shit..

I’m sorry, but people do have responsibility, people in the government too

Shifting blame seems silly. Government is supposed to be responsible and accountable. The problem is elected officials appear to be owned by palm greasing oligarchs through lobbies and super PACs. Sure individual accountability are absolutely required for our system to work for us. But accountability of governments is absolutely necessary, or we can look forward to more harm to the working class and small companies.
