I have a DeWalt planer and it is a good quality piece of equipment. The down side of changing to helico is my age. I’m 72 and don’t use it as much now. But I would change over if things were different. Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.

I have the planer... not really sure $300 in addition to the planer cost is 'budget' for most people! Having budget in caps is pretty much click bait, but here I am :) Yours was free so I think we would all signup for that budget. The planer works great with the blades provided and I have no problem with the finish, the sound difference is definitely an upgrade but again not really budget. Can get ear protection for much less than 300 bucks.

It's a lot of time and money into a bench top planer, I would recommend putting the money towards a better machine first, Straight knifes are better on a jointer, there is no reason for it because its not your finished surface.
