You are soooo right. We must have a civic test at every grade and make civics a core subject. I was a retired second grade bilingual teacher and I taught my second graders civics esp. the new immigrants from day one. Keep spreading the message and make sure the new secretary of education adopt this strategy.

Great idea...however they stopped teaching civics in order to have an ignorant citizenry so govt could do as they wish.

If I were a history or civics teacher, I think I'd teach about today's republican party and the former political party, the Whigs. Mid 1800s.
