The tragic tale of the British Antarctic Expedition (Terra Nova) . Their race with Admunsen lost, they faced an almost impossible task of returning 883 miles back to safety. They would need luck on their side. Sadly luck promptly deserted them.

The worst blizzards on record hammered down on them, crushing each man. Oates was a true gentleman, sacrificing himself with legendary grace. The rest of the team would come within 11 miles of provisions. So close, but it might as well have been 1100 miles with the blizzard outside their tent. Robert Falcon Scott knew as much, he penned his farewell entry in his diary, and together with the remainder of his team, froze to death.
