I love the detail that at 2:08 Isobel crosses over to comfort the wife of the man with the infection. It really shows her character!😊

Mary thought Pamuk was coming, but actually he was going.

"He's dead."

Cora's loss of her son, instigated by O'Brien, changed the course of the entire series. Once Patrick had died, then another male heir had to be found, because of the entail Robert's father had forced Cora to agree to when she married Robert. He wanted to make sure that the estate stayed within the Crawley family. Never mind that there would have been no estate to pass on without Cora's American money.

Superb acting by the ladies in the Pamuk scene.

"I just wish it was a treatment I was more familiar with."

"Will that serve as your excuse when he dies?"

I think Sybil's death, Matthew's death, Edith being jilted at the altar and Lord Grantham's ulcer erupting at the dinner table factor high as shocking and dramatic moments

Pamuk’s death scene and Sybil getting knocked down are probably the two most dramatic scenes in season 1. You can see that Tom is falling in love with her in that episode.

The thing about Downton Abbey is that the stakes are either super high or super low, but boy when the stakes are high, Julian Fellowes sure knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats.

O’Brien and the soap. Still a most dastardly act.

I always hated the Pamuk storyline. They made it seem like consent, but it definitely wasn’t. He forced himself into her room and wouldn’t leave when she told him to.

How badly do you think Clarkson would have wanted to throw the dowager out on her ear? Yammering on in the operating room like that. Bring it to the attention of the board indeed.

I think the one where Syble died is the most dramatic one until Mathew’s death! Especially Cora and Tom were amazing on her death bed.

Violet infuriates me in that first scene. Calling Isobel an "amateur" when she, unlike Violet, actually has medical training. Violet had no idea what she was talking about, and instead of shoving her own fear of the the future into a mans live or death scenario should have had the decency to stay out of it.

#1 was my favorite early moment for Isobel.

I can only imagine that the poor fellow may die anyway from infection. Nothing was truly sterilized, and no one was wearing gloves. And though I grew fond of Thomas, O'Brien along with Nanny West were pure evil.

These were very poignant scenes, indeed. Edit: I just read the description. Sybil did not suddenly collapse! She was hit in the head!
