NF's 'No Name' Is Simply Good | Lyrics Explained

The lyrics of NF's "No Name" are simple but awesome. They have a clear meaning about hardwork and the ever continuing struggle to find purpose and meaning. NF tells us about what he's thinking about and reminds us that he's not going to rest on his laurels until he's satisfied with how hard he's worked.

You should take a look at "10 Feet Down" (by NF) next! Ever since my first listen, I've always felt like there's some layer to the lyrics that I'm not understanding...

I agree whit you. I just want to contribute, I know it'll be long but I have some things to say.
So, I understand this as him saying that still is difficult to get over the things that happened to him, that's why he says "wake up every morning thinkin' I'ma have a bad day" then here "drive my own car, I don't like the valet" he can be saying that he doesn't like the way the thoughts go, so he tries to drive them instead of leting the valet do this, like, the anxieties and fears, like what Twenty One Pilots say about fighting your own fears and demons. To me it makes perfect sense cause he says right after, "parked, then I go into my mind with an AK, shoot every thought in my head then it rotates" and "losin' it all, but I think that I'm okay"(he is trying to fight this) "who is involved? I don't know, but I'm insane. Poof! And I'm gone, wanna call me a no name, what!?" maybe its the thoughts trynna take his place leaving him to be a no name, to don't take control.

When he says "I'm prolly not what you thought" could either be him talking to these demons or to the audience, like, "guys, there's so much involved, ima way more than what you thought" or also can be him warning that he's still not where he wants to be and have issues and things that he wants to improve about himself, like be okay, get out of this state of suffering with things, figured them out more so he could like, know his purpose a lot better and feel actually good about getting to where he wants.

"I used to judge everybody that wasn't like me 'til I learned it was wrong. Girl told me I should get it together and get out the dark" like, for being so different from others, like man the way their parents act, and he still didn't got into drugs or alcohol like his parents; the abuse he went throught, and the part i relate: people at his age were probably doing stuff without thinking. it can be very lonely, you think you'll never find people that are like you and that do things with a meaning. you know he says about Bridgette "I'm tryna give her my heart, that's when I sit in my car, writin' for hours until I can barely talk" because he knows that she do things with meaning like him, he found this connection, but he also used to be all alone, so she says that he should try to fight these demons and fears cause he is not alone and dont be afraid, to get out of the dark, he found his kind and also can feel okay with being so different from other people.

This is proved to me in the end:
"I mean, where do I start? feels like I'm fallin' apart, act like my image is hard(he's suffering), I always put up my guard even when talkin' to God(there are things that he doesn't understand and maybe he struggle with faith because of them, for being things that are hard to understand and just trust blindly, like why do bad things like abuse and rape happen to people and God doesn't do an intervention for this to not happen, and does people who pass through these things can actually make a choice to get over it? like i dont know some kid really marginalized and who suffers abuse all life, and if in some cases people cant like choose to get over things like that, because they keep on passing it every day, than God's saying that some things are meant to happen? like, if God does nothing, the abuser "didn't had a choice", because God let it happen and you can't judge the victim saying that the person has a choice to get over it and don't do any wrong life choices? like get lost in life. maybe all of this go through his mind, also because of what he hears from the fans that went through hard things and still do. he shows this to us in therapy session and outro.
"Sit in my room and I plot
, everything that I'm not comes out in the music I jot, I give it all that I got" I agree with you. And the final verse reforce what i said about he trying to figure things out and this process is exhausting, so he's not always ok to smile and, the stage, the music itself is he trying.
