It's supposed to sound like, HA-lo HA-lo not HAY-lu HAY-low. The "A" is the short vowel sound not the long one. The same goes for the letter "O".

Halo-halo is a Filipino dessert where "mixing" is the main point, hence the name. Halo = mix in Tagalog. It's served with a bunch of different toppings (that are also sometimes desserts on their own, like ice cream!) on top of crushed ice. And when you're about to eat it, you're supposed to mix them all together to create one big slushie.
