Solving trig equations using quadratics

How do you solve cos squared or sin squared equations? It's not as challenging as you might think. In this video we'll look at connecting the concepts of trigonometry to quadratics. We'll see how you can use factoring like you did in your quadratics unit and see how you can use that same method to solve certain trigonometric equations.

We'll start with sin squared x. This can also be substituted and solved like we would solve something like x squared; factor and solve. The same can be applied to cos squared x. But as we delve deeper into these types of examples we start seeing how we have to be careful with the solutions to sin squared and cos squared and checking if they are really solutions or not.
