Cool idea! Sealing the phone under a vacuum is a really interesting approach. However, the iPhone already has a solution to this for the variability in atmospheric pressures found on earth. There’s a barometric vent with a permeable membrane that allows pressure inside the phone to equalize with the atmosphere outside the phone, while still keeping it waterproof. I think the key is probably allowing it sufficient time to equalize (ie, by pumping your vacuum chamber down more slowly). Without this, I suspect iPhones would be popping open left and right on airplanes (about the equivalent of being at 10, 000 feet elevation).
