Rufio's death hits hard when you realize that he saw Peter Pan as a father figure that he was trying to emulate. He even mimics Pan's hairstyle.

I love that even Hook looks slightly mortified and worried at that glare Peter gives him after Rufio dies. He knew Pan wouldn’t give him games or chances after that.

This scene is still hard to watch as someone in their 30’s, I nearly cried when I watched it as a 12 year old. You would never see this in movies nowadays, a grown man stabbing a child in the heart during a sword fight, after watching a childish, playful battle of the lost boys beating seasoned cutthroat pirates with eggs and marbles, shocking and reminding the audience that there are real casualties and consequences in armed conflicts. Hook is a great movie, to hell with the haters.

Rufio is the closest a lost boy ever came to equaling Peter Pan. Thats incredible.

I love the way Hook acts after he's killed Rufio. He knows he went too far and it turned what seemed like innocent sport and sword fun into a very real, very dangerous battle. Peter looks at him with rage rather than in a playful manner and it took all the fun out of it. Then Hook asking him where he's going like a friend who has wronged his playmate. I think Hook liked the back-and-forth between him and pirates against Peter and the lost boys. While in Neverland you can never age and it was a way for him to enjoy himself. He burned Peters house just because he didn't come back, which he could've done at any time. I think he envied Peters youth and saw him leaving as some sort of abandonment. Peter unwittingly took away Hooks only enjoyment out of the immortality he would be granted in Neverland. The difference was Peter got to grow up. Hook was stuck as a bitter old man and if he left Neverland he would die within 2 decades. Peter still had his youth and I think Hook was jealous.

The way Hook kept saying Rufio's name makes me think the two had a run in more than once.

0:23 “Rufio…Rufio” you can tell Hook and Rufio have had a history together since Pan was never around. Great job writing w acknowledging that. It would have not hit the spot if Hook and Rufio never even talked throughout this movie. This scene is awesome

The most underrated moment is Hook just saying Rufio’s name. In that 1 second you know that Hook is seeing red and that they have a history. Such good acting and writing!

Rufio’s death hit me so hard as a kid. It took me four times of seeing this masterpiece before I could no longer shed a tear. RIP Rufio 😢 ❤️

I am still amazed that they had the balls to kill Rufio... stabbed through the heart nonetheless.

Rufio's last words based on his happy thoughts, which was to have a dad just like Peter, were so touching. Who can blame Jack for wanting to go home after he saw what Hook just did?

Rufio was the closest a Lost Boy ever came to measuring up to Peter Pan, let alone dueling Captain Hook singlehanded or die trying, which is what made him Peter's successor after Peter left Neverland and came back.

Hook's sword play is amazing. It brutal yet subtle and he uses his hook so well. Seemed Rufio was on the defense most of the time

this is the closest thing of seems Robin Williams playing Link, since he was a big Zelda fan

Rufio's death blow reminds me of the behind-the-scenes Lord of the Rings story about Saruman's death. Christopher Lee spoke to Peter Jackson between takes and said, "Do you know what it sounds like when someone's stabbed in the back? Because I do." He was referencing his military service, and talked about how people don't bellow or scream when they're pierced through the chest like that because the air is driven from them. Rufio's weak, startled gasp when he's run through feels something like that to me. It's so much more upsetting to hear than a big dramatic scream.

I'm pretty sure no one else has said it so I will. Can we appreciate the fact that Dustin Hoffman is doing all of this choreography in a huge wig, heavy elaborate costume and high heels?

the fact there's nearly zero cgi in this whole film made it age like fine wine
