Ad Astra was good but could’ve been better. Per Brad Pitt, he built his character around a calm, semi stoic demeanor from a famous astronaut which works well on paper and real life but struggles to translate well onscreen. It feels as if he’s a spectator wandering through a predetermined series of events which takes the intrigue out of his arc. Even when meeting his father he showed little emotion.

The plot progression feels as lively as Pitt’s character with each mew sequence feeling like a video game you’ve already played and you’re revisiting the levels.

Yes, entertaining, another good sci-fi film for the collection but it’s understandable why it wasn’t received as positively as many thought it should.

I like how the movie was essentially finished- it tested badly, so they did the voice-over which put it through the roof. I really like the slow-development that actually pays off, and there's real character growth. and "realistic" science (excepting the source of 'threat') but fabulous imagery. monkeys in space- beware

It's a good movie if you know absolutely nothing about space and space travel
