How Does a Katana Compare to a Medieval Long Sword?
Показать описание
Who would come out on top, a medieval long sword or a Japanese Katana? We can’t look to history for answers – so we pitted them against each other in a modern-day confrontation.
We all know that It all comes down to the enchantments you have on the weapon.

No weapon of antiquity has benefited more from modern pop culture than the katana. Even the samurai who used the sword didn't regard it with the esteem that western pop culture does -- samurai used the katana as a side-arm, and did most of their fighting on the battlefield with polearms and bow.

Unlike a European longsword, it is physically impossible to end someone rightly with a katana thanks to the lack of an unscrewable pommel to throw at one's opponent.

Im not Katana fan but they guy with the long sword actually tries to cut the steel, even using his body weight. The baldy was more like meh.

I don’t have a dog in this fight because I’m not crazy about swords, but I mean, why not use the same person to test both? Using 2 different people makes this seem very inaccurate.

I feel a disturbance in the force....
A lot of angry katana fanboys are coming...

And neither were a main weapon or used against heavily armored opponents unless nothing else was available. Samurai used bows and polearms, knights used polearms and axes or hammers like the pollaxe against armored opponents.

I love the katana far more then the longsword for its looks and aesthetic. But the longsword is just better overall. More reach, double edged, its material was better then the katanas, and has more power. But the biggest thing is well. Both were used as last resort as European used polearm and samurai mostly used archery to keep distance.

Weebs be complaining that the katana doesn’t have a demon inside of it

If you're going against a fully armored opponent using a sword of any kind, your main weapon is gone, and you're probably dying. I would actually say it's a lot more important for it to be easier to use than it is for it to be able to go through steel.

The longsword is proven in many wars across Europe and MiddleEast while Katana never had any significant victory outside Japan except defeating the Korean Farmers.

I had a katana once. It was included with my teenage mutant ninja turtle costume for Halloween.

What really matters is how a fighter wields and uses their weapon.
