Isn’t it amazing how you can have almost everything you need delivered to your house? Sounds great in theory, but it also made way for a new infamous species of crooks: the sneaky porch pirates. These people have replaced frightening ships with scooters and eyepatches with backpacks, lurking around neighborhoods, ready to snatch your most recent Amazon order. Let’s meet some of them

Some of the things I have seen and experienced with online delivery: packages are not only stolen by strangers but also by your neighbors, packages are dropped off at wrong addresses, package contents are damaged when delivered, even if package contents are not damaged sometimes the outer cartons are so ripped apart you can see what’s in the box, packages are delivered empty some times. Online delivery is a nice feature but the reality is that it has a lot of flaws. Another one of those flaws are porch pirates who seem to think anything delivered to your house is up for grabs. The justice system needs to increase the penalties for theft because today so many people are blatantly doing it.

Damned porch pirates, I had an expensive printer stolen from me as well as a couple other items. Now I have cameras everywhere!

My friend's wife got him a brand new big screen TV and they put the old one in the box and put on the front porch to take it to the dump the next day. It was gone and when they checked the ring camera someone showed up at 1:00 a.m. and stole it thinking it was new. He wished that he could have seen their face when they realized it was old and had no remote.

I once caught a porch pirate at my neighbor's house. They weren't at home, since they were walking their dog at the time. I was out with my dog (big Bernese mountain dog) and saw him by chance. He made a run for his car, which he had parked around the bushes, but my dog was faster, and I yelled out so loud, the farmers on the opposite side heard me from their office, so one of the young farm hands just leaps out the window and tackled the guy to the ground. My dog just barks at him and kept sure that he stayed on the floor, whilst the farmer called the police.

Guy got sentenced to 7 years prison and a bond of €3500

In the Netherlands we have track and trace so we can see when they deliver, if you are not at home you have to come and pick it up

I order from Walmart delivery once a week, but I always order my delivery for my day off. I don't drive so it's hard for me to get groceries with no car. That's why I have Walmart+ and I can put my grocery order in the night before and pick a delivery time that I know I'll be home and awake, then when I get the text that they are in route, I'll go outside and wait in my driveway.
