When I was a child, I saw the phrase "Made in Japan" a lot and when I was about 8, "Made in China" started taking over.

Conclusion: Apple phones are overpriced for no logical reason.

The answer is simple = "it's because in China the supply chain is huge compared to other countries, literally everything needed is available within reach"

The journalist forgets to mention the price tag in china already includes tax. The one in US is not.

"Made in China" should be changed to "Assembled in China" & "Profited by USA".

"US brands are everywhere I look" - A large number of these brands are not even American. Adidas is German and H&M is from Sweden.

Designed here ... made over there. You asked them junk, they make junk. You ask them an iPhone, they make an iPhone. Chinese junk is in fact US junk design.

Godiva is Belgian, H&M is Swedish, Adidas is German... and you checked American brands?

I am an electronic engineer. Once in a while I ordered a circuit board to be made from China. I uploaded a company an electronic file, then Chinese company made and shipped to the US. The same circuit board to be made in the US, it would cost me 10x as much. The reason is because of environmental policies in the US make it so prohibitively expensive to disposal of used toxic chemical.

People have no understanding about this stuff, especially in US! all the things you're getting it now are fully made in China (or other Asian country) or the components of it! those stuffs which were used to be luxury in the past, now everyone can have it or somehow still can afford. Asking for them to come back to the US is impossible bcz it's gonna drive up the prices & less consumers gonna buy it, So, Less profit for the companies & less jobs for stores or retailers in US. Made in China doesn't mean it's garbage cheap stuff, it's depend up to your money, you can buy the best one with right amount of money or low life stuff with less money. Almost all the Amazon stuff is coming from China, 3$ phone charger on Ali express (alibaba) people are selling for 20-30$, these days even luxury cars or plane parts are coming from China. Without Asian countries most of the stuff were going to be nothing more than a dream of High class people, Phone market is big example of this.

As a kid growing in a Romanian village I remember going to an open market on Sundays and seeing all the cheap poorly built toys all of them carrying the "Made in China" text.
They were so bad.
But then I started noticing an improvement and a few years ago I took the risk: bought a Xiaomi phone. Needless to say the next phone after that one was also a Xiaomi and I'm now the proud owner of a TV Box made by them, a screw driver, a fitness brand. And I couldn't ask for more in terms of quality.

Thank you for your honest report. I visited China last summer. When I came back and landed in Newark airport. It felt Newark was 100 years behind Beijing or even Xiamen airport. China's infrastructures are quite good. In China, I noticed every subway station has safety doors to protect passengers from incoming trains. If you want that to happen in NYC, MTA will inflate prices 10 times more, and drag it for 10 years. For the union votes, Cuomo or his successor will continue to turn blind eyes on MTA' corruptions and allow NY's roads and bridges to decay.

The prices you paid in China has the value added tax included. Did the US prices you showed include tax as well?

Tesla built the Gigafactory in Shanghai because China have the largest consumers in the World.

This video explained it well, but I still miss the time when everything was made in japan, back in the 90s and early 2000s. Everything about then was about the quality product and the way it gets the job done right. Now people literally buy things just because of the brand name. Just look at supreme, the prices on those things are just wack!

Truly want to visit China or live a time there just to know the culture and this kind of matters. Greetings from Mexico.
