The Flash Review: Is It One Of The Best Superhero Movies?

Warner Bros and DC have been propping up Andy Muschietti’s The Flash for months as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. In April, the studio launched an ambitious early screening campaign where they showed an unfinished version of the film to large groups of people, including the audience at CinemaCon, where I saw it. Due to it being a screening of an unfinished cut, I wasn’t allowed to review the movie formally.

You’ll notice the disconnect between the early screenings and some of the reviews, which are surprisingly mixed, given the early buzz. Having seen it again, I stand by my original assertion that The Flash is one of the best modern superhero movies. While not in the league of the Christopher Nolan trilogy, it ranks with the best Marvel movies and is expertly made and peppered with enough fan service to delight fans - although some are wondering if perhaps too much of the movie’s focus is on easter eggs. The difference between Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, as far as their antics being detrimental to Flash and Aquaman 2, is that Ezra can act well enough that you can forget it's him, while Amber can't act her way out of a paper bag and all you see is Amber.

I absolutely LOVED this movie! Barry's attempt to save his mother and father was extremely touching, while the rest of the action and characters were an absolute blast of fun!

Ezra Niller cannot carry a movie. The first hour of the movie is rough till we get to Keaton. Good riddence. Ready for James Gunn.

Flash is my favourite superhero movie of 2023 I just had a blast watching this movie I watched it five times in theatres I absolutely adore The Flash. It's the most underrated movie of all time. It's getting unnecessary hate

I'll see it for Michael Keaton but F Ezra Miller hard! Guy is an absolute unapologetic monster and the things he has done and attitudes he still displays should not be celebrated on any level or given any kind of a free pass.

Nice review. One of the things I think is interesting is that none of the actors look like the heroes in the actual comic books. Especially Sasha. Not saying that’s good or bad, just interesting.

It'll be interesting to see how Aquaman 2 and Blue Beetle works out and if it will carry the torch or snuff the flame created by The Flash. And if The Flash is really the starting point for Gunn's revamped DCU then I struggle to understand why it was released before Aquaman 2, especially since we all know that Jason Mamoa isn't returning to the role.

As a flash fan that really doesn't like a Barry that doesn't know east from west I'm still going to see it. Who knows if we ever get another flash movie.
