As an acrylic artist I tend to work in whatever way will suit the piece or the specific subject. Sometimes light to dark is best other times it’s the reverse but one of the benefits of working with acrylic is that you’re just layering paints so it’s a lot easier to do dark to light work than it is with watercolor

I do a hybrid. I lay out my shadows 1st, then my washes, and then I go from lightest to darkest

I think both sides are interesting with values and look realistic. However, the brighter berries look a little more appealing.

I typically work light to dark, but it depends on the situation! I usually try to establish colour temperature in the initial wash then get into values.

It doesn't matter which one you should understand the concept of light and dark, the light is always on top so it's thick while the shadow is under so it should be an ebauche or under painting kind of translucent

Hello Mallery strawberrys on the left side looks more realistic. The right side of your strawberrys I would never buy they look mashy going bad with many grey places on them .greetings 😊😊❤
