After 4 months of traveling around the Balkans, we’ve finally settled! In Belgrade, Serbia, in a Soviet-time apartment that we are in love with. In this video, I’m giving you a few glimpses into our new home and chatting about what we’ve learned from our nomadic experience.

Oh I loved how you spoke of not feeling ambitious or competitive or driven for success. For me being “smart” didn’t equate to titles or money. It meant I wanted to be at home with my children, foster animals who were suffering, hike mountains, cook nourishing foods and read wonderful books. Simple has never let me down.

Serbian here who after many years in USA decided to move to Russia and no regrets despite everything happening. There is even strange sense of calmness that I believe comes from faith. You seam like a very kind person. God bless you and good luck in Belgrade!

We are currently living with my sister. My brother-in-law passed in June and she doesn't have the resources to keep her house on her own. So we're helping her get on her feet. Is it ideal? No. But it is momentarily necessary. And we just went through hurricane Ian. That is a big reminder that all things are transient. I don't get as frightened at the prospect as I once did. I am learning that I am passing through this life as an observer. It's interesting. So glad you are finding peace, my friend.

Ana, I am so happy to see you. We are living in such worrying times. When you hung your crochet garland, it brought tears to my eyes. I cannot even begin to think what you have been through. I am happy that you are with your husband and that you have a home. Warm wishes and lots of love to both of you. ⚘

I’m happy for you and Brian having found a home where you can build a warm nest for the coming months. Coincidentally, I will be arriving in Belgrade tomorrow for a two day stay. Don’t worry, I have no intention of introducing myself and invading your well deserved privacy. I will be traveling with a group from the U.S.A., and will think fondly of you while exploring the city. What a strange facet of life the internet has become. From my home in the western state of Oregon, I have followed your channel for at least two years, learning about the challenges you face, and admiring the creativity and courage you’ve shown in dealing with them. Now I will pass through the city where you are sheltering, and have no inclination toward personal contact. When I return home, I will continue to follow the glimpses you give us into your life, but I will have an added connection, having seen the city in which you live. As an introvert, I wonder if the internet is allowing me more connections with others, or just enables me to more comfortably keep my distance?

We live in the same neighborhood. You will love it more as time passes by. It has a lot of trees and it is peaceful and has a lot of stores arround and business centers.

I am also more comfortable living in cities than in the country side. I live now in Vancouver Canada and where I am I can walk everywhere: the beach, the park, the shopping, the library, the cinemas, etc.. which I could not do in the country: you needed to drive everywhere.... I am glad that you have settled for a while: constantly travelling is exhausting....

Hi Ana. I am so glad you have settled in Beograd, for now.
Sure, block of flats in Serbia are the same as in Russia. So, it should feel like home or at least - similar!!!!
Mentality is similar and that helps as well.
For all foreigners who happen to visit Serbia I have one thing to say: average Serbian doesn't have necessarily good manners, but he means well!!!!
My daughter recently brought her friend with, to visit the family and friends in Beograd, and the friend totally fell in love with hospitality and warmth she received.
Yes, she has noticed that people don't smile, that they look miserable and hostile but also, that all that hostility dissappears after exchange of the few sentences.
Take care. Looking forward to the next content. 😊❤️

Congratulations on having continued your search and found a new place for a more lengthy amount of time.
This will help you find your centres of gravity again.
One step at a time and some quiet breathing space will help you place what has, is and will be. Enjoy each other in this safe haven, you have finally found your first Port during this unexpected storm. Make more happy memories together. 😊😊💚

Ana, I am so happy that you and Brian have found a sweet new place with happy energy to stay for a while. I am longing for the feeling of loving where I live. I want to move back to my beloved Hawai’i to feel joyful, and to rejoin all my friends. Right now it is very difficult to be in a place where the days are growing colder and darker. I am gathering all my resources and trying to utilise my writing and drawing to earn some extra money that will enable me to leave this place sooner than later.

Serbia looks lush. Poor enough to be slow, quaint and cheap, modern enough to not be isolated and to have good modern things like vibrant street art:)

Congratulations on finding a home! I'm very happy for you two :) I live in The Netherlands and grew up with Serbian twins who were my best friends. Very kind and passionate people. I'm finally going to visit Serbia next year for a wedding, I'm very excited. I've heard it's a very beautiful country.
I currently live in a village that's been grown in by a mid sized city. Forests and rivers are in walking distance and the city centre is half an hour by bike. It's the best of both worlds :)
