RESIN & WOOD LIVE EDGE TABLE - From fallen tree to coffee table

Показать описание
While driving around the neighbourhood during the tropical rain season I found a tree that was getting cut down because it was about to fall.

From the first time I saw it I knew I was going to have to try this long wanted project!

I stared off with an 8" thick slice of a fig tree. After letting it dry out for about 4 months I started to work on the project.

The final table is about 40cm high, 1 metre in diameter and 5" thick. For the leg frame I used 1.5" x 1/8" flat stock and for the legs 3/4" round stock that I hot formed to shape.

Can this go outside on the porch as a seat and how did you make the jig so it slides?

What’s the blue stuff going in the cracks? Working on my first stump. 😁

I love this. I will have to try it. Can you please let me know what the epoxy is. And where you bought it. Also how long did you let the wood season? Inside or outside? Thank you.

Nice work! I am curious: How does the table look today? 4 months is not enough time for the wood to air dry, especially if it's a big fat piece like this one. Did you kiln dry it or did it bend and warp in the meantime?

what grit sandpaper did you use when you sanded over the blue epoxy resin? did you worry about it scratching the resin?
