Could the "sticking points" in the negotiations be Hamas's insistence on both a *_permanent_*_ ceasefire_ and the release of hostages and Netanyahu's promise to "eliminate Hamas" after any *_temporary_*_ pause_ to obtain hostages? It is hard to believe that the main points of contention in _privat._ are not these "public" positions. It seems everything is a "secret" nowadays, even if the public knows about it.

Its seems to me that planning for the day after is a worthy but unrealistic, unattainable goal, when dealing with people who chose to be lead by Hamas. For them, the day afyer is the day they can perpetrate another Oct 7th. A Palestinian state will only help them achieve their goal on a greater scale.OCT. 7TH demonstrated to Israel It is simply too great a security risk for Israel to consider a 2 State solution in the near future. Deradicalization, Demilitarized Gaza and tthe West Bank seems like a pipe dream but that is the only way forward. That probably won't happen in the next 5 years. Maybe 10 or 20 years if the world cooperates. It seems like the world perpetuating the problem by funding UNRWA and only blaming Israel.
