Originally conceived in the mid-sixties, Images concerns a pregnant children’s author (Susannah York, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival) whose husband (Rene Auberjonois) may or may not be having an affair. While holidaying in Ireland, her mental state becomes increasingly unstable resulting in paranoia, hallucinations and visions of a doppelgänger.

Well sorry to disagree with many on here, but this is a masterpiece of 70's cinema. Hypnotic, amazing editing and narrative structure. Up there with Nic Roeg's work. Altman and Roeg became friends too at this time. I know as Roeg told me so.

Just finished watching this, loved it, stunning cinematography, good acting, intriguing, complex. Sometime ago I watched Symptoms and having liked it a lot I looked for similar films, Images is what I found and I'm glad I did.

@2:11: Hitchcock had: "Psycho, " Altman had: "Schizo." 😂

Will you release more Altman movies in future?

I guess it's way too much to ask for Hollyweird to give us a valid and thoughtful portrayal of mental illness. Instead of this "violent psychopath" or "whackjobs are funny" bullshit mentality

Saw this in The Movie Theatre, mid 70´s.YORK is very good.Plot not so bad.Meaning, it is not a real investigation of Schizo-reality.Too light for that.

Artsy-fartsy Altman misfire. A carnival of what's real/ what's hallucination. A film with stunning cinematography, splintered editing, gratuitous music, narration from a children's book actually penned by actress York and no purpose or point whatever. See Repulsion(1965) or Life Upside Down(1965) instead.
