California Coastal Trail Hike

This California Coastal Trail hike is heading north from Patrick's Point State Park into Humbolt Lagoons State Park along the coast and around Big Lagoon.

The trails through Patrick's Point alone are some awesome scenic views but once you drop down to Agate Beach you leave most of the rest of the world behind.

And a few steps north you will find yourself alone for a couple of miles with just the roaring of the waves and the call of the seagulls.

Hiking this section at low tide gives you a little wiggle room further up the trail, and high tide during storms has been known to crest over into Big Lagoon so keep your eyes on the ocean.

The sand is soft so this section of the California Coastal Trail saps a lot of energy. Because I had a long day of hitchhiking and miles to cover I got off trail and hit Highway 101 before Dry Lagoon State Park.

There were no rides so I gave up hitchhiking and just walked all the way to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and met a German couple here on Visa to hitchhike the coast from Canada to San Diego. They were having a blast.

Get outside! Backpack America!
