This is my all-time FAVORITE production of this story. Mark Strong was the most believable Mr. Knightley, in my opinion, with a flawless performance, blending affection for, frustration with, and, often awkwardness around Emma. He made his struggle regarding his feelings for her palpable so that his final declaration comes as a huge relief. Kate Beckinsale was perfectly cast as Emma. I nearly lost it when she suddenly sat up in bed and said, "Oh, Lord. Harriet!" Love, love, LOVE this version.

This is the youngest actress I have seen play Emma. SUCH a great casting choice. She is a headstrong, spoiled youngster, not an overbearing socialite. Mr. Knightley is a thoughtful, concerned adult. Emma's father isn't a caricature. Someone has actually READ the book. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Oh, this is a Masterpiece! All others variations of the story or, shall I say, experimentstions should be thrown away! Excellent quality in everything: the cast; costumes; photography; landscapes! The film just takes you back to the begining of the XIX-th century! Bravo & THANK YOU for the job well done! Unfortunately, we don't have this kind of creative quality in films anymore and it's sad.

ive seen the other 1996 (with gwyneth paltrow), the 2009 version and the recent one, i thought nothing could come closer the 2009 one, but this was soooo good it'll stand top1 with it. absolutely delightful! glad i stumbled upon it here <3

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this video. I have been trying to find this version for ages. It is my favorite out of at least four versions that I've seen. It's the first thing I saw either Kate Beckinsale or Mark Strong in. Their portrayals and those of others in this version just seem more genuine to me than those in other versions.
