Despite a raft of sanctions against Russia, especially its lucrative fossil fuel sector, the European Union is still paying billions to that country for energy. Legal loopholes are allowing barrel after barrel of oil into the bloc, even as Brussels sends aid money to Ukraine. Are more sanctions necessary?

It's almost like all these wars are just games rich people play with poor peoples lives.

These are the people lecturing India for buying Russian oil. Funny thing is they are acting like its a Russia's fault for selling them oil. Its your money, keep it in your pocket

India is an independent country with its own foreign policy and not bound by any dictates of the USA or western countries in its relationship with Russia and not a vassal state like western countries hyprocicy and double standards

I miss the times where interviews had decent sound quality :(

They don’t sell crude oil. They sell good old fashioned Russian oil and the other countries act just like in-betweens getting a very small commission for reselling it as their own

Europe needs to invest in more nuclear and renewable energy generation and storage.

Europe has a better choice to buy expensive oil & gas from its master, USA.

Over the past two years, gas from Russia to Europe via pipelines in Ukraine has continued to work as normal. I don't believe there is a Russian loophole, but rather an energy backdoor created by the Europeans themselves.

Cause not just your energy sector but every industry depends on fossil ffuel.

20 plus years into the green revolution, and we are behind the starting line and paying more for energy than ever. Well done, European politicians.

Didn’t EU say China must be sanctioned for trading with Russia and hence supporting the war?

what sanctions were imposed on USA for Iraq invation ? Or these global rules don't apply on west

Only the US controlled governments imposed sanctions on Russia. None of the Arab, Latin American or African countries didn't impose sanctions. Almost no Asian countries didn't follow US policy towards Russia. Why do EU countries not import cheap fuel and gas from the US and Canada?

“Fear of energy prices rising”? What is your guest thinking? Leaders who don’t worry about inflation don’t remain as leaders, in democracies.

India and Russia is not in war! Why would sanctions in USA and EU have any effect there?
Russia are free to trade anywhere. (except where USA sanctions are in effect) But that is not the world at all.
Their challenge over time will be microchips. Not oil. Russian economy is growing. They are fine so far. Sanctions do NOT work.
And that is why Taiwan is important.

This man thinks the European politicians don't know this information 😂. If they increase the screws, the energy price will skyrocket, and they will be out of power in the next election.

Then why is Europe buying it? Why don't they stop buying it. India doesn't pay Russia in dollars so it doesn't have any impact to Ukraine anyways.

By Sanctions Russia, EU also sanctions itself, because trade is bilateral and benefits both Partner.✅
