Most amendments should be repealed. The goofiness began with direct election of senators.

Most of this series of videos is quite informative. But many are misleading if not inaccurate.

The series makes assumptions based on their interpretation of historical documents such as the Articles of Confederation. Their assumptions are just that, assumptions. Many scholars disagree. The country we live in today is very different than the short-lived country under the Articles of Confederation. The chances that the disastrous outcomes raised by these videos happening is zero.

Article V specifically limits the convention to amending the Constitution. This is not a Constitutional Convention. It is a “Convention for proposing Amendments”. Video 1-7 is blatantly wrong. Both Congress and the Supreme Court would shut down any attempt to rewrite the Constitution. Further the simple language of Article V demands that any change is only valid “when ratified by …” one of two options.

Instead of railing against an Article V convention the John Birch Society needs to answer these questions.

Are there changes that you would like to see that would require an amendment to the U.S. Constitution?
I believe that most of us would answer yes.

Do you believe that Congress, in your lifetime, will be able to have both houses by a two-thirds majority agree to put a constitutional amendment up for ratification by the states?
I believe that most of us would answer no.

The only way we are ever going to make changes to the Constitution is through an Article V Convention. There is a safe way to do this. A way that will work.
