In this video I explore the use of wordplay in the Media and Government, how it's done, why it's effective, and how we can use it ourselves.

This is just one measure, albeit a very simple one, which is utilized by those in power to convey their ideas.

I'll add here as a corollary a thought which I only tangentially touched upon in the video, and that is that the more synonyms a language has, the more prone it may be to accepting modern "liberal" ideas. I haven't done a ton of thinking on this idea, but it does seem to roughly align with reality - i.e. countries with more restrictive languages (china, russia, japan) tend towards traditionalism, while the more flexible languages, because they allow for the use of thesaurus arguments described in the video, tend towards modern destructive ideas.

BRO!!! Being multilingual and English being my second language I had this thought for some time, that I am much more persuadable in the English language than in my mother tongue. I never knew why, some things just sounded more compelling in the English language, but when I would translate it into my mother tongue it sounded like complete bull crap that I would never fall for in a million years.

Then again, people often associate ignorance with rural living. A quick trip to any metropolitan area will disabuse a person of that assumption.

When you don't use the word "Fascist" you quickly find that a great number of people are all for Fascism. Playing the language game is useful, and I agree that it's necessary, but it's also immensely black-pilling to see just how completely unaware and ignorant so many people are. Especially when they're people that you respect. Once we have properly just people in charge in this country we really ought to prioritize teaching people how to actually think critically. Actually, now that I think about it, "critical thinking" is another one of these buzzwords. I heard it all throughout school growing up, and I assume most other zoomers did as well. They constantly insist that you think critically, but all thinking critically amounts to is giving them the answers they want to hear. So whether people realize it or not, they end up thinking that they came to their views of their own free will when in reality they haven't given anything any real thought. I really want to see our people free of that garbage, regardless of what conclusions they come to on their own.

Having grown up in Venezuela, I knew a lot of these language distortions by the experience in my country (hate speech laws, "gender-inclusive discourse" laws, etc), what actually impressed me is finding the same thing used by politicians and the mainstream media of the "democratic world" ("voluntary interruption of pregnancy", it's way worse).

Your tax example actually happened. I know someone who lives in Colorado and apparently their state constitution makes it very difficult to raise or create new taxes, so they just have tons of "fees", "fines" and other euphemisms for taxes.

I'm so glad to have found this video as I've thought the same things for years about the perpetual exchange of words in political spheres, particularly with reference to the term "sex work" to describe acts that otherwise use unapproachable words such as prostitution. Such a use of verbal trickery, and voluntarily, almost concedes a defeat of the ideas themselves, as if the proponents of "sex work" are not able to accurately and voluntarily reference what they are promoting out of a natural moral distaste, which is shared by those they argue against. In my opinion, this is due to the associations that we attribute to words over time which allow us to internalize their meanings and connotations, thus painting a more accurate picture of what is being described. Switching out a word with a strong and definite connotation like prostitution for a set of one neutral and charged word - sex - and one neutral and generally positive and honorable word - work - is akin to a direct lie, as it's meant to sidle around the strong mental associations of other, more accurate words so as to prevent people from truly having to confront what they are talking about inside their own minds.
