Hi i'm Bruce from Ultrimax Coatings and today's help video is all about paint mixing cups. To demonstrate we've used the well known Colad paint mixing cup paint preparation system, but any cup with accurate paint mixing ratios can be used.

This video advises how to use these mixing cups, what happens if you get ratios wrong and the different sizes they tend to be available in. This video is ideal for any painter whether you are painting cars or steel girders, joinery and marine items...everyone should use mixing cups before spraying.

Ask any questions you need and our NACE Lvl 1 inspectors will answer and subscribe to our channel for more helpful 'How to' videos.

It's been impossible getting this question answered. How do I make a 15:1 paint to hardener ratio? The cups don't go up to 15

Do your 350 ml cups come with a 9:1 ratio ?

That percentage increments (5-30%) on the cup is very very misleading. The percentages represents the amount of extra liquid you want to pour into the cup, on top of whatever you ALREADY have in it.
It does not represent the mixing ratio some manufacture want their paints reduced. For example for Sikkens autocryl the mixing ratio is 100-50-30. That means 50% hardener and 30% reducer. If I use this Colad cup and use the 2:1 scale (paint and hardener) and fill it up to plus 30%, it will give you the WRONG amout of reducer you actually needs. Again, the percentage increments represent the amount of extra liquid you want to pour on top of whatever you ALREADY have poured in the cup.
