I can’t remember what Native American nation/nations played it but I remember when I was in 6th grade my school did a semester long multidisciplinary study of the nations and tribes of the southeast (I live in Georgia). I remember learning about a high stakes game that would be played to settle disputes which was referred to as “The Little Brother of War.” The game was physical, dangerous and some serious injuries and deaths were common yet still much safer than pitched battles.
