Dude! It's based on a (popular) book. You can't just change the tone of the work.
I'm glad they played it straight. That showed discipline and prevented it from being bad bad. I would actually recommend this movie. B+ Great production values, terrific cast and performances (portraying Abe Lincoln in a vampire movie? that could have gone very wrong, but didn't), and terrific action and emotion, . Overlooked + underrated

I LOVE that they take it so seriously. It’s a gothic horror as a western action movie. We don’t need it to be campy, the fact that it’s serious and well written is the joke.

It's a action horror flick. They need to be serious. If you want a comedy, watch that horrid mess Vampire Academy.

As to my favorite vampire movie it would be Bram Stoker's Dracula, Let Me In, Near Dark, Vampires, The Lost Boys, and 30 Days of Night.

I really didn't like this movie. Not just because it was bad, but because it ruined one of my favorite books. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith is a masterful piece of writing. This movie however, has nearly nothing to do with the book and that was really disappointing.

Watching this review in 2022, after a decade of the 'jokey' Marvel Cinematic Universe films it was AWESOME to go back and re-watch Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and have a serious film that's not full of jokes and comedy and levity and that kind of thing. You feel the weight of the subject matter and not only that but the time in history in which the film takes place i.e. slavery and the Civil War. Marvel would've butchered a film like this, let's be honest.

I liked the slow mo action shots but sometimes it was pretty ridiculous like the part with the horses where it bends reality like for example, teenage Lincoln is hanging upside down, a knife falls from his belt, he catches it with his teeth and slashes the vampire in the face, then he swings forward and upward and cuts the rope on the ceiling that bound his legs then lands squarely on his feet instead of falling on his face

I love the serious tone. I don't need comic relieves and jokes like Guardians of the Galaxy style in every action movie

This movie was a victim of incorrect expectations and is worth a rewatch.
