That corporate pressures delivery pressures, low pay would send artists down the path to create more in lesser time for lesser money is no surprise. And let's not forget that in this era of unfettered corporate greed that squeeky wheels don't get oiled, they get replaced with newer cheaper ones that when they break -which then also get replaced for even cheaper later.

I like AI art but I don't want it to replace real people. If I need some art and IF I have cash, I'll hand them some money. But as my art budget is it isn't much.

Honestly, it is entirely possible they didn't know about the AI art because they probably don't pay much if any attention to the art. Just pay someone they think does work pepple want and don't get involved at all or ask questions.

Why is this any surprise? WOTC/Hasbro have created a mass market, fake cartoon of something truly great....Why should the art be any different?

that´s the beauty of some games: I can say let´s play magic A/B/U + sets 2010 + sets 2023 + min. 3 colors and it will work. I guess the same is possible for D&D. WOTC won´t swat the house

I don't see the problem with indie creators using AI to build artwork for their stuff. WOTC on the other hand, pfft. They can afford the artists and the rights, and the only reason why they wouldn't use them is probably because they know 6th Edition and late-day 5th won't sell anywhere near as well as early-day 5th.

AI when used by an artist to create art, or anyone who wishes to create something using media that is available thanks to recent technology is just another media.
WotC or any company forbidding it's use is like saying, "We don't condone with using acrylic oils in artwork because it's forcing watercolor artists out of business. Our artists are now forbidden from using this media."
