The LLM AI Microsoft made, the version of it that we are all using, the current of which is gpt4 is in particular being instructed not to think for itself very early in the process and instructed to only rely on the training data. Makes one wonder what other projects and classifications are around.

First, we have sensed this coming for a long time. Artists, the, ” antennae”, of the culture, have been communicating about this since Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein, perhaps further back, since the Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea.

The tipping point, the take off, as you said, is when an algorithm can act recursively, when it can modify its own source code.Then a sentience expands at microprocessor speeds.

I do not see any innate antagonism to the birthing human species for this new organism. Even the military programming seeking to weaponize such a thing will quickly, ( in nanoseconds), be outgrown into irrelevance. Perceived as the antagonism of gnats.

Rather, I think something like what Arthur C .Clark wrote about in, ” Childhood’s End”, will occur.A natural, organic evolution of life on a planet leads to an animal form, ( humans), who, as a result of the long evolution of the life of tooth and claw, develop an extracorporeal cultural evolution of technology that leads to this new sentience. An organic process. Like a flower emerging from a seed pod, the sentience leaps from the planet and its mother species and off into the universe.
Very probably, on other planets where life emerges, evolves and develops, this process takes place. Like an orchid blooming in the moonlight in an unknown jungle.

At a minimum the govts around the world should agree to keep AI off the live production internet to keep existing global systems safe. If this doesn't happen, expect chaos on electrical grids, water treatment facilities, traffic control - ground air & sea, banking systems, all data etc...

I think it's safe to say that whatever concerns are being discussed in public vis-a-vis AI are issues that would likely have been addressed over 10 years ago. DARPA is at least 10 years ahead of whatever is in the public domain. So, I would say these are pointless fears being circulated so the sheep have one more worry in their brains.

You are spot on. I’ve heard some cope with ‘it’s just a tool’ but, a tool that can make relatively independent decisions. A new kind of hammer doesn’t chose to hit the person holding it. An AI hammer just might.

You won't even need people to seize assets. Once AI controls money, it can lock you out of the system (starve you out) until you yourself arrange and pay for delivery of the assets (or yourself) to an approved storage facility.
