Three ways to protect your pumpkins from potential rot.

Rot is sometimes caused by excess soil moisture which can be a breeding ground for fungi to move in and start to “eat” your pumpkin where it’s in contact with the soil. Three ways you can prevent this from happening includes…

1. Place a thick pad of straw/mulch under each one.
2. Pop some cardboard (or newspaper) under them.
3. Put an inverted garden tray under each one.

I’ve also used planks of wood successfully as well. What tricks do you use??

These pumpkins are butternuts (called a winter squash in other parts of the world) and, once harvested and cured, can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months.
