Elon Musk says he can cure my blindness? #shorts

I want this to be real...but I also don't want to get my hopes up. It's very hard to come to grips with losing something like your vision and I don't want this "hope" to mess with my mind like it did when I was younger.
I would love to talk to him about this a little more. If you can help me get in touch, please do.

Got Questions? I’ve got answers:

How do I respond to comments?

Why does it look like I’m making real eye contact and being expressive with my eyes?

How did I lose my eyesight?

What does Pete “see”?

Why is Pete wearing sunglasses

Do blind people dream?

How do I film in the studio?

How do I film when out in the world?

Why do I wear a watch if I’m blind?

Do blind people blink?

How do I "read" copy for all of my voice acting work?

Where have I heard Pete's voice before?

How do I surf blind?

How do I tell up from down when I fall off my surfboard?

Does it hurt if I get salt water in my eyes?

Can blind people get dizzy?

You can also learn a lot and get inspired by watching The Blind Surfer Documentary called “Finding A Way”

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask in the comments. The Blind Surfer channel is always happy to help spread awareness and information about blindness and how it affects tens of millions of people worldwide.

As a blind person, living in that flux state can be so exhausting. I also met with "the guy” recently, and while my family was jumping with joy, I could not allow myself to even smile. I knew that if I allowed myself to believe, and it for whatever reason didn't pan out, I would be crushed. Hope is scary, and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only blind person who feels this way

“Within 10 years I will restore your eyesight””that was 28 years ago”
Sounds like a villain backstory

When I went blind I was inundated with, it'll only be a few years, stem cell research, transplants, this research in that. It was everywhere, and from everyone, including my very famous and prestigious doctor. 15 years later nothing has changed. I'm dealing with my daughter showing signs of my problems, and I told her Dr. flat out, the worst thing you can do to me is give false hope. I want to know exactly what is going on, and exactly what the actual prognosis says, not what you think it might be in 10 years

Man, I feel the same way. I'm a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at 8 years old in 2006. "6 more years till a cure, " they said. Then again a couple years later. And again. Having that hope never come to fruition really sucks. I won't believe anything anymore until I see results.

Blindness is hard, it's even harder when you have a hobby that nobody does without vision, keep on surfing, Pete

What people also forget is even IF there is enough scientific knowledge to create something to cure blindness, it will still take years for it to become approved by the FDA, become affordable and become widely available. And rushing this sort of advancement could be disastrous if unforeseen side effects are discovered or covered up.

When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Don't count on Elon Musk, don't hold your breath. You are amazing just as you are. We love you.

Pete, you have the right mindset. You are living your best life regardless of vision. if it can be fixed, awesome, if it can't then it won't slow you down.

It should be illegal for doctors to lie to patients like that. I’d rather be told “there’s a chance, but it’s more likely it won’t happen” than “I promise you it will happen” and it never happens. Even if the doctor was sure, he shouldn’t have promised anything because there’s always a chance it won’t work.

Valuable video for anyone. I have put off doing things "until"....and then never did them. My life and interests have changed over the years and some things I know I wouldn't really enjoy anymore. But....I WOULD have enjoyed it then.

“ blind people see what other people can’t”

I have a friend that delayed going back to visit her mom because the school said something about her getting into this class soon if she just waits. Her mom passed away while she was waiting for her application results and she ended up dropping out of school because of that.

My dad faced similar growing up, spent a lot of time at Baylor and LSU, since he didn’t have a diagnosis. We know now that those attempts did far more damage than help since he got a diagnosis when I was born. Because of that my parents have refused to let me have any treatment, out of fear of harm. There is research into what I have and a possible solution but it’s an all or nothing

Yes it’s the same but different for me. I had a car accident 24 years ago that left me in the wheelchair with a spinal cord injury. And they also told me from the beginning „in 10 years they will have the knowledge to make you walk again” and some people focus their life on such promises and forget to live their life in the meantime.
Do I want to walk again? Yes sure but until that day I’m living my life to the fullest in the wheelchair.

A doctor should never make promises to cure anything. That doctor sounds foolhardy.
