Ton 618 is an ultramassive black hole, located about 10.4 billion light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. With an estimated mass of 66 billion solar masses, it is one of the largest known black holes, residing at the core of a bright quasar. Its immense size makes it a benchmark in the study of black hole growth in the early universe.

Phoenix A, on the other hand, is the supermassive black hole at the heart of the Phoenix Cluster, roughly 5.7 billion light-years away. With a mass around 100 billion solar masses, Phoenix A surpasses Ton 618. It influences its galaxy cluster by powering vast jets and contributing to the cooling flows in the surrounding gas.

Both are extraordinary, but Phoenix A’s association with a galaxy cluster sets it apart.
