III is not my favorite Superman movie, but this is by far my most favorite scene out of the entire franchise.

Decades later, looking at this particular scene of the movie trumps all the latest cgi etc as this looks and feels so realistic. Kudos to Reeves for his amazing acting skills. Always remembered but never forgotten. R. I. P. LEGEND

Best scene of all of Reeves Superman movies.

"You always wanted to fly Kent" implies his struggles with wanting to embrace both parts of his life instead of always trying to hide who he is

I love how evil superman looks at clark in disbelief, confusion and then anger

Seeing this as a kid it was like his life was really on the line, and every time he had something happen to him was a breathless moment of anticipation and worry. Seeing him reveal the S on his chest at the end with the trumpets playing was such a triumphant moment it gives me chills even now at 43.

Christopher Reeve was not a fan of 'Superman lll', feeling it had lost its way and merely become a comedy vehicle for Richard Pryor. But he was proud of this memorable 'Good Vs Evil' scene, which gave him the opportunity to play a villain.

He pulled it off with aplomb, and despite the overall disappointing movie ('Superman ll' was Reeve's favourite, though I struggle to choose between it and the first movie), this is surely one of the best superhero movie scenes of all time.

For those of us who saw these films at the cinema as kids in the 'seventies and eighties (and many who were not of that age), Christopher Reeve IS Superman - and always will be.

Superman III definitely had it's flaws,  but Christopher Reeve playing the dark version of the Man of Steel is what made this Superman sequel very entertaining! And the junkyard scene really is the best scene in the movie!

Incredible. Still at my 51 years I get excited to see this scene and the music.

The scene is metaphorical, in that superman was corrupted and turned evil, but the goodness inside of him is battling him (hence why before this scene evil superman keeps screaming, and clearly has some emotional pain). When Clark steps out of evil superman is the metaphorical meaning of him trying to deal with the conflicting good and evil and confront it; then it is a battle between the good and evil aspects his soul, but Superman’s goodness to good so prevails.

I watched a few horror movies as a kid but nothing scared me more than watching this scene!

I love this film, i know the general consensus amongst the fanbase is that it is crap and fair enough but this sub plot concluding in this fabulous outcome was brillant and truly the highlight of the entire film. Christopher Reeve was mesmerising as Superman gone bad. Unforgettable.

I always thought of this as an amazing visual metaphor for your good side and your bad side and the fight between them that takes place in your mind
